Our Story

CHEFS Kitchen is a social enterprise of nonprofit Episcopal Community Services (ECS) and provides a platform for culinary training and employment for homeless and very low income people in the San Francisco Bay Area. We use our kitchens to teach culinary skills in our CHEFS Training Program with graduates moving on to employment in all aspects of food service. CHEFS Kitchen is a catering business +  employment opportunity for CHEFS students + great marketing for our work. Together CHEFS Training Program and CHEFS Kitchen have been operating for more than 20 years creating great food and great employees for our community.

Jason has over 8 years of experience working in not-for-profit workforce development and food-related social enterprises in Chicago, IL. He has worked directly with the recruiting and training of agency participants, fostering relationships with prospective employers, developing/revising food-service training curriculum, promoting the organization through public speaking engagements, implementing budgeting and revenue goals for the social enterprise along with cooking and serving meals to agency participants and the public.



With over 50 years of experience in the food service industry Chef Al has found his passion helping students better their lives thru ECS catering.Chef Al Leddy started in the food service industry at the age of 14 and took classes at City College culinary program with a focus on restaurant management while learning the trade working with different executive chefs. After 25 years in the for profit food industry, he became a chef in a nonprofit senior housing for women for 19 years. He then joined ECS where he runs both the catering business and a senior meal program and loves to mentor student chefs.
